Cycling

Always something to seeFar from the madding crowd, the quiet roads and paths around Dornoch provide an ideal environment for cycling. Get closer to the wildlife as you cycle along overlooking hedgerows and fields, with marvellous views of sea and hill. For an easy four mile round trip, head out from the town to the Dornoch Bridge, along the Cuthill road. A more adventurous (and hilly!) route - 30 mile round trip, can be found by following the road to Bonar Bridge, past Skibo Castle and through Spinningdale.

The Sutherland stretch of the National Cycle Route passes through Golspie, Lairg, Tongue, Melvich, Kinbrace and Helmsdale. The route continues north through Caithness via Helmsdale, Kinbrace, Melvich, Thurso and John O'Groats.

Those preferring off-road cycling should visit Auldie Burn in Tain and Borgie Forest in Tongue.

Cycle Routes around DornochA leaflet of local cycle routes is available free from the Tourist Information Centre
